This meditation is not about being able to touch your toes or do the splits. It is about being flexible in other areas of your life. If you ever find that you get upset when your day doesn’t go as planned or if something unexpected arises, this meditation may benefit you.
In honor of starting a new career this week, I am implementing this meditation back into my daily life.
I wrote this meditation because I am often very rigid. Starting off my day, I will list my objectives, make a plan and then execute. However, life is rarely as we plan or expect. When things go awry, which is more often than not, I can get a bit upset. I feel out of control and become irritable.
Amber’s Daily Flexibility Meditation
Get into your meditation as you normally do, or try the following:
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
Begin to notice your breath and see where it is in your body. Don’t try to change it, just notice the ins and outs. Take special note of the top and bottom of each breath.
As thoughts come in and out of your mind, do not try to stop them, but do not follow them. Just note them and then notice your breath. The rhythm of your thoughts may even begin to match your breath.
Making your thoughts active think about how you can handle anything that happens in your day. No matter what comes, you will handle it and be okay. You can deal with things as they arise. Say, “Whatever happens, I will deal with it and I will be okay.”
You don’t need to plan out every moment. You don’t need to worry about what might happen. Worrying does not help you prepare, it only wastes energy for something that probably won’t happen anyway. Because you can handle things as they come, you don’t need to worry. Say to yourself, “Worrying does not serve me. I will take things as they come.”
Think of a time where something happened that you didn’t think you could handle, but you did make it through. You can handle things. You have a lifetime of situations that you have dealt with to draw from.
Now imagine yourself happy and laughing, working during your day with ease. Take a few breaths and feel light and stress free. Imagine someone coming up and asking you to do something unexpected and happily smiling and saying, “No problem”. Continue to imagine yourself happy and flexible, able to do anything that comes up today with a smile on your face and in your heart.
This meditation has really improved my daily life. I hope it brings some happiness to you as well.
